David and I had the pleasure of helping out at the Creative City Centre last night. David did sound, I helped with the door and whatnot. I didn't know much about these two artists before coming out, but I sure am glad I came.
These two aren't a duo per se, they are actually uncle and nephew individual artists that decided to tour together. They took turns leading songs as individual songwriters with the other lending harmony and various instrumental accompaniment. This made for a really interesting night. You sort of got to know each songwriter in their own stories and songs, with lots of variety as instruments and lead changed fairly often. Some beautifully poetic songs, some really fun ones, and some stories, tied up with some really pretty vocal harmonies. There was a Martin guitar and a Taylor, a bass, and even a banjo that came out to join in at various times. Two sets of some lovely music.
Nice job you guys. I enjoyed myself. It's good to remember that sometimes you should just get out and see an artist you might not know about just because. These kinds of nights almost always end up being fun nights that I'm so glad I went along. Last night was no different. As we walked home after the gig I felt so happy to have had that experience. Walking along in the night that was warm enough to walk and reflect such things.
I should have taken a picture of course. Darn it. I'll try to do better next time. Happy Thursday.
