Look at the sign? That's Halifax! But no, it's Halifax Street which was part of our very involved walk yesterday in Regina. Oh how we walked. It was a strange adventure to be sure. We started from home in the morning and found it to be a tremendously beautiful day. Our first stop would be Malty National, one of our favourite local breweries. They had a blood orange brew that was just amazingly refreshing for such a day. Perfect.
Then we decided to get some food at Hunter Gatherer's place, a restaurant across the street from the brewery. This place has created a really interesting vibe with all these neat old framed art pieces on the walls, and one wall of all vintage suitcases. It's pretty cool. Their menu is all vegetarian, so we ordered some wraps and settled in to enjoy the ambience. However....yeah... I love to enjoy ambience as much as the next person, and I love the 'experience' that is going out to eat. But.
Oh dear....unfortunately, as we enjoyed the ambience, and sat, and bobbed along to the choice '80's tunes they played....no food came out. One song after another, several trips to the bathroom while drinking glass after glass of water. And no food. Hmmmm.... And I hate to be impatient. Oh goodness, now it's at least an hour from when I started keeping track of time and my belly is beginning to call the shots here. We decided to leave! Oh my. That is a first for me I think. Actually leaving before being served. It caused a minor upset, but off we went!
Then we meandered around looking for something to eat of course. The day was gorgeous, but the wind was very strong and contained lots of bits of dirt and little rocks too. It felt a bit like being a space ship travelling through an asteroid belt. Gracious! We ended up finding a spot that had a somewhat unsatisfactory sandwich that had probably been out for 7 or 8 hours, but oh well. Food is food sometimes. We continued walking and getting pummelled by the asteroids, visited some friends at our friendly neighbourhood guitar shop, then headed for home.
A lovely adventure all in all even though there were some tragic moments. We ended the night eating with friends and laughing about how silly things can be. And it started with Halifax Street. Happy weekend you guys.
