Yes we're going to the cricket, the cricket, the cricket! Hey how fun right? Admittedly, it took a very long time for several people to explain the game to me. I'm sorry, it just is so different for me. I grew up with softball mainly, but also baseball and know those games very very well. Cricket has some very big differences and in fact, it's probably better if you never knew about those games if you want to understand cricket.
I'm very excited. A cricket game can be up to 5 days and they get tea breaks and things. Can you imagine?! It is day 3 of the match right now between Sri Lanka and Australia. Sri Lanka are batting. You sort of settle in for the day and it is a whole thing. They play for like 8 hours a day (with the tea breaks and such).
And it is Australia Day! Which is kind of like Canada Day but of course more relevant for Australians. It ends up being a long weekend and everyone very excited to celebrate from what I understand. There is controversy around it as with Canada Day since there are horrible things associated with both countries being settled by English. I get that too, it's a difficult thing. Here they are thinking to change the day since the actual day celebrated is the day of landing of the English, which was not a great day for the folks already in Australia.
In any case, we are just having some coffee now and getting sorted for a day in the sun watching cricket. I'm going to need some serious sunscreen I'd say.
Happy Australia Day yous, meant in the kindest of ways
