We're here! I think I can speak for both David and I when I say we feel barely alive. Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but boy. I did not want to wake up this morning, and it seems David is not too happy about being awake really all day. I feel all cold and shivery. I think it is just some weird symptom of jet lag, not related to temperature, as I am actually indoors, not out in -31 or whatever they are saying it is out there.
Ah yes. And there are things to do. Well, firstly the car. We will need the car back from the lovely garage space our dear friends had her. Let's hope she wants to come home and actually starts when we go get her.
Then there are things like groceries and various household things. Boo.
Then there is communication with people and letting people know we are home and indeed alive although it barely feels it. That's important, I'm sure of it, that communication bit, but it all feels strange. Like the world exists out there, but we are trapped underwater and can't quite surface. Luckily, we don't seem to be actually drowning down here, there seems to be at least minimal requirements to support life. Just hard to swim up.
I'm really glad we made it. It's always happy and good when no terribly horrible things happen when you fly home from Australia. And the weird feelings will surely pass as a transient wind. A wind that fluffs by strong enough to shake your balance and maybe has a bad smell, but before you know it, it's gone and you aren't too bothered anymore.
I've read some amazing books in this time. Educated by Tara Westover is amazing. I am still thinking about her life and the courage she had to live it. And the other book I read was Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Another great read and insight into us oddball humans. I really enjoyed both and recommend them. Nothing like 2 days of travel to speed through some great novels.
Well, that's my story, I hope my Canadian friends are surviving the winter as we all hole up in our respective warm places. I hope to venture among you soon.
