Well we finally arrived in Chilliwack and had such a beautiful experience. Our hosts provided seating, amazing food, and this warm welcoming space that was absolutely perfect.
The evening started with folks arriving and mingling over some craft beers and Jamaican lemonade. Some lovely folks on a beautifully warm evening in beautiful British Columbia. We met some really interesting people, found out where we were all from originally (why do we always do that...I have no idea...), and had some nice conversations.
Then people all cozied up on armchairs and couches to settle in for a set of music. We started with a small set, choosing some love songs and a couple from our latest album as an opening to the evening. We had a photographer taking some photos, and a lovely sea of receptive faces to look out to as we shared our stories and songs.
There was a short break and everyone loaded up with some of the gorgeous food our hosts had prepared...oh my... a vegetable curry, some Jamaican rice and beans, some roast veggies, and I don't even know what all. It was tremendous. Then back to settling in for another bit of music. For the second set we chose a couple of Bouzouki songs to start - The Wedding and If the Sun Don't Shine. Then we picked a couple of new ones and a couple of older ones to round out the set. We finished with a special adapted version of 'Yesterday' to honour our host and his birthday this week.
By the end of the evening it seemed we had all gotten to know one another in such a lovely way. The shared musical experience made for some really nice connections and a magical evening I think.
This house concert thing is pretty cool. I say yes to the house concert. If you have an opportunity you should go to one, host one, or play one. I think they are something special.
It's been a bit crazy with car camping and whatnot, but I'm glad to be writing stuff again. Happy Sunday.
