I used to be a big radio listener, AM, FM, whatever was going. Remember the top 40 lists in the 80s and 90s....they were great ways to expose yourself to the latest great music coming down the pipeline. But now turn on any mainstream radio station and I hate almost everything on it. And the talking bits are horrible. So many ads. So much screaming at me. shhhh....
Oh but there are secret radio stations. Our Regina community radio is one, CJTR, and then there is the whole world of internet radio that is pretty much amazing. You can find really cool radio shows that talk about and feature interesting music that I (and others like me I'm thinking...) like! From your backyard (Regina) or from anywhere you can think of in the world.
Yesterday David and I were tickled to discover that Acoustic Routes out of Wales featured our song Rural Abyss. What a treat. We tuned in and listened to the whole show via internet and discovered an amazing mix of really fantastic and interesting music. The host spoke about each song and artist and I was thrilled to see he had done his homework, knew about us, liked what we were up to, and he even gave our shows a plug! This particular show gets played in Dapper FM and Roots and Blues Radio and I'm just excited to have found it and also be on it. David told me we are also being played in Newcastle UK and Canberra Australia. Wow. Cool!
The whole experience has opened my eyes to different and interesting radio shows in unexpected places. I'm thrilled to be part of this beautiful thing that I have only just discovered.
In other news we wake up to a snow covered landscape here in Regina and I have an incredibly sore neck which I can barely move. I'm ok though, not daunted. Snow is not -40, the neck thing I'm slightly worried about, but it's feels great if I look straight ahead. That should be ok right?
Have a great day guys,
