This week's Hump Day Half-Hour Harmonies live stream features songs about places. I love the place we find ourselves in River John but I know I wouldn't be the person I am without the experiences that came with the places of my history. I'm sure David must feel that way too, he has even more places that he has been connected to.
It's especially bittersweet given the travel restrictions imposed on us all now too. We were meant to leave for the UK this week which is not happening now, and we've already missed our cross Canada tour and all of our good friends that are part of those places.
So places. We chose a few songs that feature places. Some are our songs, some we picked because we just love them and they fit the theme.
We're thinking to include Coyotes in the Cornfield, our song that is set in Iowa - our back porch in Iowa to be exact; Going Back to Halifax - our song about long distance love between the UK and Halifax; then a beautiful song that we used to do by The Secret Sisters called Mississippi. After that, we are currently having a love affair with a song by Gillian Welch called Look at Miss Ohio we'd like to try and maybe one more that isn't decided yet.
The places affect us in so many ways. The people, the culture, the weather, the feel. Of course people write songs about places, they can have a profound affect on how you view life. They can change your perspective. Broaden your mind even. But of course, right now we are trapped. So why not sing about places and remember some of them.
So that's the theme this week. Not sure what we will come up with next week. Got any thoughts? Feel free to chime in.
