Look for the music they said, and you will find meaning and truth. We stumbled into a pub yesterday afternoon and immediately felt the warmth from the beautiful folks that ran it. We decided to come back with our instruments in the evening for the open mic session they were having for a night of it.
And we did. It was a great night. Really talented people sharing the stage, really interesting atmosphere (did I mention the room may have previously been a dungeon cell with dripping stonework complete with dank smell?), and kindred spirits. What an atmosphere and vibe. Oh and Shelley, you are just amazing and thanks to the host Kieren as well.
As we travel, it occurs to me that these kinds of experiences are more a sample of culture than any other sight seeing we could realize. You really get a deeper sense of people when you hear their music and share a stage. On this night there was some original music, some covers that obviously meant something to the artists performing, a spoken word artist, and a woman who sang a couple of traditional area pieces acapella that I could feel the history from. It was a beautiful night and I feel richer for having gone.
Ach then Wednesday it is and a new adventure awaits. We'll see won't we folks! Have a good un :)
