What would you do if you weren't doing the thing you're doing? That is the question that my friend posed to me yesterday. What an amazing question. For me, I felt a bit lame in a way because if I was asked this question when I was working in science, I would have said something in music. Now that I'm doing something in music, I haven't got a ready answer. I'm so sorry to be lame. BUT.
I posed this question to a couple of dear friends at dinner last night and got some amazing and shocking answers. These two are two super interesting and vibrant people that we know. When asked this question, one of them opted to dive to the deepest parts of the ocean to understand what lives there. Wow. The other thought a career in car engineering was a direction he would have gone. Wow again.
I would never have guessed that these two had such interesting alter ego passions. They didn't hesitate, they knew in specifics the thing that most interested them, and they could describe in detail what they would do. Fascinating.
So, what would you do? I also asked David and he was similarly lame as me. The best he came up with was sound engineer. That's kind of so similar and even part of what he does now. It's ok.
But what a question right? I learned some amazing things about my friends when I asked them this, and I liked the self reflection as well even if I didn't have an exciting answer. Here is David in the sunset as we walk off our dinner last night. I wonder if he's dreaming of sound engineering....
