Tonight and next week is the event 'To Regina With Love' happening because of the Civic Museum and the Library, at the main branch library. It is in this film theatre room that I had no idea even existed! It is going to be a collection of love stories, songs, and poems that are part of the fabric that is the city of Regina.
I am so impressed with these museum and theatre folks that are bringing these beautiful stories to life. They have such a different idea about history, and such a great one. Like for me, I don't know, history has been somewhat interesting, but I have never really thought about it much past my dusty old textbook. For them, they really work on bringing history to life in really interesting ways. Involving community, using real items and real people, interacting and bringing the stories in history into real life context with the people that are here and now.
I keep seeing them do cool things like this, and I am so surprised by my own fascination and engagement in stuff that seemed like dusty old past! The other thing that surprises me, and this is a cool part that I hope I can articulate...it makes me feel connected to the past....it kind of makes me feel part of history in a community way if that makes any sense.
I guess if history has shaped the way we are now, it is part of us in a way. I just don't think I've ever thought of it as such a living thing before meeting these folks. It's like the love songs we write now, are connected to the stories and letters from people who have already lived, who have already influenced our existence in ways we can only find out about by examining this sort of history. Is that as wild as I think it is? It feels wild to me. Wow.
Well, I'm blown away now. If you're interested in this event, it is happening twice, both tonight at 7:00pm and on the 28th at 7:00pm, Regina Library, main branch. Film theatre tonight, Mezzanine level on the 28th. Hope to share some love stories with you!
